From the Lyorn Records of the Dragaeran Empire
Instruments and their likely 'real world' equivalent:
- reed-pipes - oboes, clarinets, and bassoons
- chanter-pipes - bagpipes ("the delicate, steady pulsing of each breath")
- wood-pipes - flutes, piccolos, etc
- brass-pipes - trumpets, trombones, tubas, other horns
- polychords - stringed instruments, probably including violins, violas, cellos and double basses
- idiophones (clappers, knockers, and cymbals) - percussion instruments
- membranophones - drums, in particular timpani
- organophone - most likely a keyboard instrument, though whether a piano, harpsichord, or organ is not clear.
