Speculation talk:Teldra
From the Lyorn Records of the Dragaeran Empire
It occurs to me that Vlad misses an opportunity to try to get Teldra's soul restored to her body. Immediately after Teldra dies, Vlad recreates Godslayer while trying to rescue her. He then cuts through the Jenoine's defenses and kills it.
Next thing he knows, he's being congratulated by Sethra, and given a "get that thing away from me" by Verra. Teldra's body is nearby. This is a moment when he could turn to Verra (and the Necromancer, both nearby!) and say "I think her soul's ok. Is there some way to bring her back?"
Is there a precedent for such a thing? Obviously. Verra has already demonstrated that she could take Aliera's disembodied soul from an artifact, and create a body for it, leaving Aliera perfectly intact. Vlad was present at the time.
Is it in Verra's interest? Well, Verra knows and likes Teldra (she offered to let her stay in her home), and having Teldra alive would mean a distinct lack of Godslayer, so yes, it's definitely in her interest. Even if Vlad doesn't think to ask, I would think Verra might offer.
Would Vlad ask? Sure he would. He's been gradually falling in love with Teldra throughout the book, and he was just a minute ago ignoring a deadly battle raging around him, to try to save her soul.
Would it work? After all, this is a soul-eating weapon, not just some cute staff. Well, it wouldn't hurt to ask, would it? If Verra and the Necromancer are right there, they'd be the experts.
What happens instead makes less sense, now that I think about it. Vlad doesn't think of the option, even with Verra and the Necromancer standing right next to him. Vlad is worrying instead about cleaning his new weapon, and apparently ignores Teldra's lifeless body, as Sethra and the gang carry Morrolan's revivifiable corpse back to Dzur Mountain. Her body is apparently left with that of the Jenoine to rot or fall into the Lesser Sea.
Doesn't anyone else find this strange? --Steve R 21:48, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
P.S. He misses a second opportunity to ask, a short time later at Dzur Mountain, when the heat of the battle is past and the Necromancer comes over to chat with him.
