Talk:Laszlo
Back to page
Morrolan claims not to have ever met Zerika's Easterner lover (Yendi, Ch 8), yet he has clearly met the man as "The Warlock" and "Lord Brimford". It would seem that Zerika was then, in fact, successful in keeping the details of her relationship with Laszlo at least mostly a secret, despite the efforts of Grita to discredit Pel, as described in Sethra Lavode. --Majikjon

We know that people know Zerika has an eastern lover. We don't know if they know who. Morrolan is a bit dense at times, and this is one of his worst. (Hmmm... I know she has an eastern lover, and despite Lord Brimford being around all the time, it must be somebody else?) -- I think a bigger question is "Is Laszlo still alive?"... Even though he's a fantastic witch, the time from Zerika's return to Vlad's (when she still has a lover) is still particularly long. Has he been reincarnated? or does he have a pact with a god like Arra (who, we also don't know if she is still alive)? - Attjen

We don't know 100% if he's still around, but Zerika certainly talks about him in the present tense in Phoenix (p 310, Omnibus Edition). And while we don't know for sure if Arra is still around at the time of Vlad, we know that she lived an exceptionally long time... Presumably hundreds of years. I would guess that the orb probably could be used to extend the life of an Easterner, If the Empress had a special reason to use it so. Laszlo would certainly be enough of an interest to Zerika to investigate this possibility, I would say.

- 'Scuse my faulty memory, but in Vlad's time, I remember Zerika having a rumoured Eastern lover, but I don't remember if it's ever revealed to be Laszlo. The original Brimford might have died by then, and Zerika taken up with some other Easterner. Unless it's actually said and I forgot...

- When she was talking to Vlad in Phoenix, she said as much - he mentioned the rumours about her having an Eastern lover and she said yes, I do, his name is Lazlo. Presumably it's the same Lazlo (it would be rather creepy if it was a sucession of Eastern men all named Lazlo, IMO). -Rook 18:08, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Yup, she definitely says Laszlo in Phoenix. Either long-lived or reincarnated. The orb use is an interesting idea. - Attjen
Would it help if we had the exact quote from Phoenix?
- "It's true," [ Zerika ] said. "His name is Laszlo. He isn't my lover because he is an Easterner, nor despite it. He is my lover because I love him, and he is an Easterner because that is the house in which his soul resides."

On a different topic:
I was wondering if we should split this entry out - point Laszlo to an entry for Lord Brimford or The Warlock, and maybe use this one for László of Fenario, or create an entry for Laszlo, King of Fenario, and point this one at both of those.
-- Davdi
Using "The Warlock" creates almost as much confusion with the generic term Warlock as Laszlo does with László. So if you must do this, I would say use "Lord Brimford". Can we just maybe create a separate entry called "László"? Will wiki respect that this is distinct from "Laszlo"? --Majikjon
My vote would be to make this a disambiguation page, split out into "Lord Brimford" and "King Lazlo". Seperating it on the basis of the diacritical marks seems an excessively fine distiction, especially since few people know how to put them in URLs when trying to find pages.
... In fact, I'm going to do that now, and then go hunt links.

Done. Brimford / King Lazlo.
On a completely different note, do anyone else's eyebrows go through the celing that Zerika referred to the Eastrners as a house in the quote above? That suggests an unusually progressize viewpoint.

Well, she is in love with an Easterner. I suppose you'd expect her to have a fairly unique perspective on that sort of thing. (Maybe that's why she's got a soft spot for Vlad in "Phoenix"?) --Majikjon
- Note she said house, not necessarily House, and more completely, "the house in which his soul resides". That could just be a sappy way to say "body", too. One could say the same about Vlad, whose soul currently resides in an Eastern "house", though that same soul once resided in a Dragonlord, later a Jhereg. Aliera's soul resided for a while in a funny rod. --Steve the Younger 15:07, 7 Oct 2005 (UTC)
